  1. I believe there are folks that are being as the saying goes “Penny wise and pound foolish”. If you have a leak in your roof do you just change 1 or 2 shingles and wait for the next leak or just fix the whole roof with the goal of it lasting a while and reducing overall cost in the long term? Separate towns is a joke unless people would like to increase taxes even more. No need to review the math to understand that. Its obvious. Quite sure some don’t get this.

If the school wanted to put in a hockey rink and indoor pool I would question. This is for basic funding based on increased costs.

When I came to the area the schools were about to lose accreditation. Once we improved the school system property values increased. Surprise!

I fully understand the gripe of people who no longer have kids in the school system. Often it looks like a money pit. I paid for all of the schools built despite not having kids in they system at the time. No issues. Soon I won’t have kids in the system and will still support because it is good for the health of our community. I have read the budgets and don’t see waste in them just increased costs and trying to solve a problem for the longer term vs. a 1 year fix.

Mendon’s vote will come down to “Penny wise pound foolish” or they just prefer to vent every year at meetings because they enjoy it. I fully expect Mendon to do the wrong thing but, hopeful they won’t.

  2. just unsubscribed from this blog. Personal attacks without any proof and without allowing the individual to defend himself is not my idea of a community blog. “It is our job to fight it to the (perhaps bitter) end.” oh the drama lol.

    1. You’re kidding, right? The admin of that page is the KING of personal attacks without any proof. Ever visit the page? And there IS proof in this case. Peter attached a SCREEN shot of the statement! How much more proof do you need?

    2. frankly, I really don’t keep track of who follows or unfollows. I write the blog for the community as a hobby and those who wish to follow do and those who don’t, well don’t. I accept and print all letters to the editor, with so far only one exception. Letters are published whether I agree or disagree with the writer.

    3. Frank,
My letter was not a personal attack. I simply reported what someone was writing on another page because it’s important to the ongoing debate about the schools that people who follow that individual understand his motivation and what he hopes will happen to the town and schools. Those are his words, quoted from his post, on his page, a screen shot of which I attached. That should be proof enough.
If YOU are receiving information from that page and making decisions based on it, it’s important that you be able to put it in context so that you can make an informed decision by understanding the motivation behind what’s posted over there.
My motivation is clear: I am a yes vote and hope many, many others will be, too. I hope to prompt you and other “no” voters who may have been influenced by that page to reconsider now that the true hope and intentions of the page administrator are clear.

    4. Frank Lee (I know you’re still reading this site),

Here’s another quote from the Mendon-Upton Public Square website, in direct reference to what I said in my initial letter, Mike Watson responded “Here comes your wake up call folks……HE’S 100% CORRECT!”

So there is it is: Mike Watson’s grudge with the school district has risen to the level that he is overtly hoping to breakup the district, even if that means hurting Mendon residents and town departments, and incurring the greater long-term costs that will come with splitting up the district and operating a school system on our own. That’s not fiscal responsibility; that’s letting your emotions get the better of you and lashing out without regards to the results of your actions.

That’s how angry he is. And you, Frank, appear to be hitching your wagon to that horse. It’s unfortunate, because you and other “no” voters also will suffer if this happens.

      Peter Salenius

  3. Well, I seem to have touched a nerve, as the administrator of the page I mentioned in my email has shifted into personal-attack mode against me on his site. There are at least 4 falsehoods in his statement about me, which is not the first time, and which should not be surprising to anyone.

Could he be trying to draw some attention away from the truth?

Looks like he doesn’t enjoy being exposed. Too bad.

    Peter Salenius

  4. It’s about time someone exposed the real reason behind all the nastiness directed at the schools. All about hurt feelings and a bruised ego. Maybe people will start to see through all the BS and make the right decision for the town.

  5. Bravo Mr. Selenius! This is a very personal grudge that is playing out on the town stage. I don’t want my kid’s education and future caught up in someone else’s personal grudge. It is our job to fight it to the (perhaps bitter) end. Our kids deserve nothing less.
