Wildlife Ready for Winter: Saturday, November 14, 10:30-11:30
Join Metacomet Land Trust in encouraging young children to get out and explore nature!
Learn what animals do to get ready for winter, take a short nature walk to discover signs of wildlife around the park. Follow up with making a birdseed ornament for your own backyard!
This program is free and open to the public, geared toward elementary ages. Meet at Visitor Center.
Brown Bag Along the Blackstone: Sunday, November 22, 29, 11:30-12:30.
Pack a lunch and join us in the heated “bull pen” -now a conference room at River Bend Farm Visitor Center. Watch an episode or two of “Along the Blackstone”; an award winning series of videos by the Rangers of the National Park Service capturing the stories, cultures, natural resources, and the heritage of the Blackstone Valley. Bring your own lunch will be followed by a Canal Walk at 1:00.
Canal Walk: Sunday, November 22, 29, 1:00-2:00.
This easy walk meets at River Bend Farm Visitor Center and continues along the Blackstone Canal’s historic towpath. Appropriate for all ages, walk with us and listen to stories about the canal’s history and wildlife. Two miles round trip.
Evergreen Walk: Saturday, November 21, 28, 2:00-3:00.
Hemlock, Norway spruce, white pine…view, identify, and appreciate the park’s coniferous and evergreen plants on this winter-is-coming walk. Meet at Visitor Center, all ages welcome.
Geology Hike to Lookout Rock: Sunday, November 22, 29, 10:00-11:30.
Now that autumn winds have stripped the maples of leaves, we’ll turn our focus from foliage to geology as we take a hike along King Philips Trail to discover stories in stone. See how glaciers carved the landscape, find a stone cutter’s boulder, and identify minerals along the way to a rewarding view. About 3 miles round trip, moderate hike. Bring water and snack for a short break at the lookout. Meet at 10am.

Hike to Goat Hill Lock: Sunday, November 8, 1:00-2:00.
This 2.8 mile hike uncovers some interesting stories in stone and follows the changes in the landscape along the Blackstone Canal, stone arch bridges, an early stone quarry site and remnants of one of the best preserved canal locks. Moderate hike with roots and rocks along the path. Meet at Visitor Center.
Kidleidoscope Story Time: Fridays in November 10:30-11:30. Nature Story time continues through the late fall and winter season! Join us in the heated meeting room for nature stories, followed by a craft activity and a short outdoor nature walk. Meets rain or shine- during inclement weather, outdoor discoveries will be substituted by a scavenger hunt in the unheated hayloft of River Bend Farm Visitor Center. Bundle up and get young children out and enjoying nature!
