powerballThe Powerball jackpot hit a record breaking $1.6 billion this week.

Most Massachusetts residents woke up this morning to find out they will have to dream another day when they discovered the three winning Powerball jackpot tickets were sold in California, Tennessee, and Florida.

Two $1 million winning tickets were sold in Massachusetts; one in Charlestown, the other in East Bridgewater.

Massachusetts State Lottery officials said Thursday Powerball sales in the state totaled $32,970,847. Of that, $17.5 million in sales were made on Wednesday.

During the 2015 fiscal year, the state lottery returned $985 million to the different towns and cities in Massachusetts based on a formula established by the state legislature. Each community can decide how to spend their funds.

Upton received $473,754 during fiscal 2015.
