At their last scheduled meeting, the Mendon Upton Regional School Committee discussed and approved the 2016-2017 school calendar.
No significant changes were made.
Superintendent Dr. Joseph Maruszczak said teachers will report back on the 29th of August and have a professional day on the 30th. Students report back on the 31st.
The district typically schedules the Friday before Columbus Day as a full release day for professional development; that full release day has moved to November 8 because of the national election.
Day 180 is scheduled for June 15 and including a potential of five snow days would be June 22.

Prior to the approval of the calendar, Member Phil DeZutter asked if the committee was interested in eliminating Good Friday as a scheduled day off. “I know that was a topic we debated in the past because we don’t recognize any other religious holidays,” he said. DeZutter noted all religious holidays are excused absences. DeZutter said he didn’t feel strongly about keeping or removing the day. The committee was not interested in making any changes at this time.
Maruszczak said he recently met with a group of twelve Superintendents in the Blackstone Valley to coordinate professional development days. He noted this year Sutton and Bellingham have moved to a modified February vacation. The committee is interested in how that modification works for the two school districts.
