Upton Cultural Council Seeks New Chairperson

committee-chairby Donnamaire Floyd

The Local Cultural Council (LCC) Program is the largest grassroots cultural funding network in the nation supporting thousands of community-based projects in the arts, humanities, and sciences annually.

My term as chair is expiring this may (after 6 years on the council and 4 as chairperson) and by law, I must take a year off. The council cannot run without a chair. If we do not elect someone vital monies from the state will go unused. This past year we received 15 applications. We are pleased to report that we granted $4,498.00 worth in grants or 67% of total grants requested, up from the previous year. We are especially proud of the fact that we were able to fully/partially fund 90% of projects/performances that will be held in Upton. The following is a list of grants funded. Miscoe Hill 7th grade field trip granted $649. William Moffit – holiday concert granted $200. Stephen Collins, Irish voices show, granted $350. Cathy Frary, Museum of Science to Miscoe, granted $530. Gregory Maichak, art/painting night granted $475. Tommy Rull, – senior center concert, granted $250. Memorial School, museum of science field trip 4th granted $880. Steve Hurlbut, Jumpin Juba concert granted $400. Karen Arnold, Miscoe Hill Newspaper Club granted $250. To Be Fit – Juggling Nutrition Magic Show granted $514.

Won’t you please consider stepping up and helping your community. This volunteer position is simple and requires one annual meeting and a few other clerical duties. A new treasurer has already stepped up so we just need a leader. Please email me at dm@thelmaworld.com if interested. For more info go to http://www.massculturalcouncil.org/
