Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI)
Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) began its 148th Commencement celebrations with the graduate students’ ceremony on Thursday, May 12, awarding 739 master’s and doctoral degrees. This was WPI’s first-ever graduate commencement, a reflection of the growing stature of its graduate programs, which have expanded substantially-in size, diversity, and international recognition. On Saturday, May 14, on the Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) campus quadrangle, 907 bachelor’s degrees were awarded during the university’s 148th commencement ceremony.
Eugene Mehr of Upton, Mass., was awarded a master of business administration degree.
Debra LaCortiglia of Upton, Mass., was awarded a master of business administration degree.
Michelle Michel of Upton, Mass., was awarded a master of mathematics for educators degree.
Fredric Silberberg of Mendon, Mass., was awarded a master of science degree in computer science.
Shannon Guertin of Mendon, Mass., was awarded a bachelor of science degree in biology and biotechnology.
Michael Andrews of Upton, Mass., was awarded a bachelor of science degree in computer science with distinction.
Brian St Germain of Upton, Mass., was awarded a bachelor of science degree in electrical and computer engineering with high distinction.
Eric Jorgensen of Upton, Mass., was awarded a bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering with distinction.
James Madison University
Lauren Christine Garufi of Mendon, MA graduated with a degree in marketing from James Madison University during the May 6, 2016 commencement exercises.
Garufi was among nearly 3,875 students who received undergraduate, master’s, educational specialist and doctoral degrees.
American International College
Antonia Cummings of Upton, MA, received a Master of Education and was among more than 800 undergraduate and graduate students representing eighteen states and ten countries who received their diplomas during American International College’s Commencement ceremony in May.
Western New England University
Scott Hubener graduated magna cum laude from Western New England University with a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice/Terrorism and Homeland Security on May 21, 2016.
Emmanuel College
Joshua Condry of Upton graduated on May 14, 2016, during Emmanuel College’s 94th Commencement Exercises on its campus in Boston. Condry received a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry during the ceremony. Condry was a December 2015 graduate of Emmanuel College.
Tufts University
More than 3,000 students graduated from Tufts University on May 22, 2016, during a university-wide commencement ceremony, with actor and comedian Hank Azaria, a Tufts alumnus, as the speaker.
The graduates from the School of Arts and Sciences and the School of Engineering included Mitchell Saeger of Upton, MA, with a Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering Magna Cum Laude
Becker College
Michaela Belliveau, of Mendon, earned a degree from Becker College on Saturday, May 14, 2016 at the DCU Center in Worcester, Mas.; it was the college’s 228th commencement. Belliveau was part of the “Global Class of 2016,” the largest graduating class in the college’s history, and the first class to have global citizenship fully integrated into the college curriculum for four years and made a requirement for graduation.
Rochester Institute of Technology
Rochester Institute of Technology celebrated its 131st Academic Convocation in May. Diplomas were distributed to graduates following the event at separate ceremonies held by each of RIT’s nine colleges and two academic centers. Local residents who graduated include:
Connor Fortin of Upton, who received a BS in bioinformatics from RIT’s College of Science.
Aaron Larouco of Mendon, who received a BS in computational mathematics from RIT’s College of Science.
University of Rhode Island
At the University of Rhode Island’s 130th Commencement on Saturday and Sunday, May 21-22, 2016, about 3,300 undergraduate and 700 graduate degrees were awarded. The former students became the University’s newest alumni.
