On October 4, 2013 the Nipmuc girls volleyball varsity and jv teams held their annual “Dig Pink” event; raising funds for breast cancer awareness and research.
Before the first serve was made each Nipmuc player handed a special lady a pink ball. The ball represented good health and was a reminder for women to schedule mammograms and perform monthly breast exams. The girls raised $317 at the event.
Prior to the game, the Nipmuc girls were told Coach Barbara King, who coaches the BVT girls volleyball team, was recently diagnosed with breast cancer. Nipmuc’s coach Christine Corey said the Nipmuc girls decided that this year they would donate their “Dig Pink” collection to the Beavers “Dig Pink” event.
On Tuesday October 8, the Nipmuc girls volleyball varsity and junior varsity teams walked over to BVT and handed Coach King the pink donation. Along with the donation, the girls all signed a poster board with a message that said “Though our uniforms are different colors, we all spike for the same cause”. They also signed a pink ball. Coach King was extremely gracious and thankful, she gave every girl a huge hug and thanked them personally.
