What to do around Upton this Weekend

johnreedfall4Two big Upton events are happening this weekend. The first is the annual Upton Woman’s Club Fair being held on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at  Blackstone Valley Technical High School located at 65 Pleasant Street in Upton. The fair will host over 30 vendors who will offer a variety of goods including  country kitchen, interior designs, woodworking, gift baskets, pre-owned treasures, knitted and sewn items, handbags, jewelry, cosmetics, lace items, chocolate,  and much more. The highlight of the fair is the quilt raffle. The Upton Woman’s Club is well-known for raffling off beautiful handmade quilts.

Nipmuc Regional High School is presenting ‘Anne Frank and Me’ under the direction of Mrs. Raymond and Mrs. Welch. The play is written by Cherie Bennett and Jeff Gottesfeld.  It is the story of a girl who gets thrust into the confusing and very eye-opening realities of life in Nazi-occupied Paris in 1942 where she must learn to live in fear and adapt to a world that thrives on hate.  The story, while dealing with heavy elements, also has brief interludes of comedy. This play is not appropriate for children under 12.

There are lots of Halloween activities going on around town, from haunted trails to pumpkin strolls. It’s the last week to visit Southwick’s Zoo before they close for the season (although they do keep the petting zoo and Skyfare open during the month of November).
