During the February 18, 2014 Selectmen meeting town manager Blythe Robinson shared some interesting news about a green energy opportunity for Upton.
The Town is looking at the possibility of joining in on building a solar array in Mendon. “We have been in touch with them (Mendon) and it seems as though we will be able to participate with them on that project,” said Robinson.
According to Robinson Upton uses about one million kilowatt-hours of electricity per year across all of their accounts. “There is some capacity in the facility being built to purchase net metering credits which supports the solar array being built and reduces our costs for a number of our accounts,” said Robinson.
The Town will focus on the bigger accounts which use the most electricity first; water/waste water, public works, police, fire station, and town hall.
Robinson didn’t have all the details of exactly what Upton’s savings will be or how much Upton will participate but said, “We will be working those details out in the next couple of weeks.”
Very Happy to hear this. This is a step forward for Upton, from a cost perspective and also environmental in terms of preserving a green planet for our children and future generations. Thank you for thinking forwardly.
That is GREAT NEWS!
