The Birthing of a Baby Giraffe at Southwick’s Zoo

Today Upton Daily and a couple of teens visited Southwick's Zoo in Mendon Ma where we were surprised to find a brand new three-hour old baby giraffe calf. The calf was birthed in front of a live audience at approximately 12:30 p.m. in the zoo's beautiful giraffe exhibit. Dottie is the mom and as of this afternoon Southwick's wasn't sure of the sex. “The King of the Jungle has moved on…. Rest in peace Leroy” – Southwick’s Zoo

Leroy the beloved lion at Southwick's Zoo passed yesterday, October 24, 2013. Southwick's Zoo announced on their facebook page "The King of the Jungle has moved on.... Rest in peace Leroy. Thank you to all who cared for him and loved him. He is sadly missed." Southwick's also thanked their visitors, "We would like to thank our fans for their thoughts and support during this time. Fall Fun at Southwick’s Zoo
